Flamenco had been on our wishlist for quite some time. And it seemed like Facebook knew it — because starting in autumn 2024, flamenco events kept popping up in our feed.
In October, after a busy and successful season, we were finally able to enjoy a well-deserved two-week holiday. Planning time away isn’t always easy with our animals, but we’re incredibly lucky to have friends like Elsje and Carel, who take care of them whenever we’re away.
This time, Elsje handled everything on her own, as Carel was in Australia. What a gift.
Out of gratitude, we wanted to treat them to a lovely evening out. We weren’t sure if they’d enjoy flamenco, but we decided to take a chance — and invited them to join us for a flamenco night with dinner.
La Bulería
In the Montolivet district — in a spot you wouldn’t immediately expect — you’ll find the flamenco restaurant La Bulería. From the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly welcomed and guided to our table, right next to the stage.
Julia, our hostess, took excellent care of us all evening with warmth and attention.
The food? Absolutely delicious — far beyond our expectations. The night was already off to a perfect start.
The Flamenco Experience
Then came the show: a young guitarist, a singer, a male dancer and three female dancers took the small stage.
What an explosion of expression!
The powerful footwork (zapateado), the elegant arm and hand gestures, the emotional body language — it was breathtaking.
The singing (cante) ranged from raw and intense to deeply melancholic, supported by rhythmic hand clapping (palmas) and stunning guitar playing.
The emotion and passion radiated from the stage.
The performers poured their hearts into every movement and note — it was infectious.
It became an unforgettable night filled with Spanish culture and tradition.
We loved every second of it. This is true art — a cultural treasure that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
